For the Trailblazers of ELA Learning

Course & Template Creation

I designed a robust, high-impact professional development course for the ELA team at KCSOS, grounded in adult learning theory, instructional best practices, and thoughtful design.

With a hiking theme woven throughout, the experience features interactive elements, custom pacing, progression tracking, and a badging system to celebrate growth.

The homepage is one of my favorite touches—a fully custom graphic that combines navigation into a seamless design, moving beyond the traditional banner-and-button Canvas LMS layout. It's one of my proudest projects and a true example of what meaningful, engaging PD can look like.

A Personalized Journey for Global New Hires

Course & Template Creation

To support a growing global workforce, I designed a custom onboarding experience that met the unique needs of new employees across NORAM, LATAM, APAC, and EMEA regions.

Using Mastery Paths in Canvas, I created a personalized learning journey—ensuring each employee only saw the information relevant to their location, such as region-specific benefits and policies.

The course carried a “Journey” theme, with map pins and visual progression bars guiding learners step by step. It included a synchronous kickoff where new hires could connect in real time, followed by department-specific onboarding led by their managers. The result? A scalable, welcoming, and thoughtfully designed experience that helped every employee start strong, no matter where in the world they were.

Badging & Catalog

At Instructure, I led the transition of internal professional development from Bridge to Instructure’s own suite of products (Canvas LMS, Catalog, Impact, Studio, and Credentials). With over 5,000 global employees, this shift was a meaningful step toward aligning the employee learning experience with the tools Instructure proudly provides to schools and institutions.

I partnered with internal experts from HR, Engineering, Customer Success, and beyond to shape learning experiences tailored to each team’s needs.I designed the learning content, badging hierarchy, catalog structure, and visuals—ensuring the system could scale globally and support future acquisitions.

“She is a fantastic person to have on your team. While working with Kim, I noticed she is extremely conscious of the intricate pieces of a project and doesn't miss small details. Kim is also very creative. The content she creates to supplement her instructional work is appropriate for her audience and makes her materials polished but not distracting.”

A Literacy Learning Voyage

Coaching & Trusted Thought Partner

I served as the thought partner and strategic lead behind the creation of a literacy course series for educators. Originally envisioned as a single course, I helped the team reimagine it as a thoughtfully sequenced series, allowing us to chunk learning, close performance gaps, and better support long-term growth. I worked closely with subject-matter experts to align content to real needs while guiding the design using best practices in accessibility and adult learning theory.

The final product, a fun and engaging nautical-themed journey titled Navigating Literacy, invites educators to chart a course through meaningful, actionable learning.
